Optimization of the restoration of Pinus plantations by minimising impacts on ecosystem services

There are about 1500 ha of commercial plantations in the Park that are earmarked to be felled and restored with native species. Clear-felling fragments habitats, impacts aquatic biodiversity, causes and contributes to soil erosion and sedimentation of water courses, in addition to having visual impact on the landscape.  The objective of this project is to find the best alternative of minimising the impacts on biodiversity and ecosystem services of clear-cutting of commercial Pinus plantations within the Park and facilitating optimum restoration. The project will employ participatory stakeholder consultation and agent-based modelling to explore simultaneously multiple ecosystem service and biodiversity impacts / values.
