Land use land cover change and fire history (1960-2020)

This project investigates land use land cover (LULC) change and the occurrence of fires between 1960 and 2020 in the two municipalities (Campos do Jordão, São Bento do Sapucaí) that make up the Water Resources Management Unit No. 1 (UGRH1) of São Paulo state, Brazil. By quantifying fire occurrence and return and changes in LULC, the project provides a baseline against which changes in carbon storage and biodiversity can be evaluated. Additionally, the results will serve for stratifying the area for ground truthing of remote sensing products, for experiments and for statistical treatment of data. Finally, the results will help identify recurring fire spots for fire management.
