Aerial transport and dynamics of Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis

Emergent infectious diseases affect various groups of animals. In South America, anurans have been particularly heavily affected by the fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis. The objectives of this project, funded by FAPESP, include establishing if the fungus / spores are dispersed by rain and fog, in addition to in the water bodies used by the anurans. Additionally, the project aims at establishing a quantitative relationship between the incidence and fungal load in the various water sources and the prevalence and infection load in native anurans in south-eastern Brazil.
